Logistics is a key domain fort he developed countries. The logistics global market volume is supposed to reach more than $ 1,000 billion in 2012 according to market forecasts. Statistics show that transport logistics alone contribute to more than 25 percent of CO2 emissions in Europe. Hence, sustainability is a major concern of logistics service providers and logistics users.

One approach towards the improvement of logistics efficiency is the use of service platforms that enable a more sophisticated orchestration of logistics services and their related IT support.
